Ready to see what Bamboo Bodywork has in store for you?

I am happy to answer any questions you may have to the best of my ability!

Prior to your first appointment, you will be sent a link to fill out your online health history and consent forms via our software, Jane. You may download a copy of the health history form here, as well as the policies & consents. If you prefer that I keep paper records instead of electronic, just ask!

You are welcome to arrive a few minutes prior to your appointment time in order to settle in. As neither office has a waiting room, please do not arrive more than 10 minutes prior to your scheduled time. Tags on the door will indicate if I’m preparing the room, ready to welcome you, in session, or out of the office.

At your first session, we will discuss your health, concerns, and treatment goals. Treatments may include hands-on contact, movement, rest, breathwork, and/or Somatic Experiencing®. After each session, we will spend a few moments discussing your treatment, and where to go from there.

Both locations have a single stall, gender neutral restroom available outside of the treatment area.

I wear a mask during sessions, and an air purifier will be running during work hours at both locations.

Solicitation for sexual interactions will not be tolerated.

What to expect for each modality

Bodywork will occur on the massage table, and is a gentle, slow, & supported blend of stillness and passive movement. You will lay between the sheets as you would in a bed. You may stay entirely clothed, or undress to your comfort level. Your body will be covered during your session, exposing only the area currently being worked on, such as your back. We will decide on positioning, and I will step out of the room to wash my hands while you get comfortable. If you are face down, your head will rest in an adjustable face cradle, and if you are face up, your head may rest either on the table or on a pillow. Side-lying or seated can be alternative positions too. A bolster is used either under the ankles (face down) or under the knees (face up) to help protect the lower back. A heating pad and blankets are available for warmth, and there are plenty of additional pillows to help you stay comfortable. You may relax silently, or feel free to chat - I will follow your lead. SE® may be provided during bodywork if you are clothed. A variety of sensations may be experienced during a bodywork session - please let me know if anything is uncomfortable or painful! Cupping and/or gua sha are typically provided while you are seated, and usually at the end of a session. If we have decided on any cupping or gua sha, I will provide a gown for you to change into while I step out, and you may have a seat on the table when you are ready. I will again step out of the room at the end of the session to wash my hands while you redress and reorient.

Yoga will occur fully clothed, and physical asana practice can include standing poses, seated poses, floor poses, and lying down. Yoga props including mats, bolsters, blankets, blocks, straps, and more are provided for in person sessions, with instruction on how to use them to personalize your practice. We will move slowly, checking in regularly with your body and comfort level. Yoga philosophy and history will be woven into instruction, honoring the depth of yoga’s roots. Restorative yoga includes setting up props to support your body as you soften into them. Yoga nidra is a guided meditation through your body, helping to land in a space of consciousness between waking and sleeping. Other limbs of yoga may be explored through discussion, including the yamas, niyamas, and pranayama. SE® may be provided during yoga. Yoga may be provided in person, or virtually, and I can help you discern which items in your home could best be used as props without purchasing additional equipment.

Somatic Experiencing® will occur fully clothed and may be provided on the massage table, during yoga asana, or while seated during discussion. We will check in with sensations, imagery, and behavior/movement, allowing you time and space to interact with your experiences as much or as little as you like. We may explore orienting, grounding, identifying resources, and more. We will slow down, asking questions like, ‘is there anything else you notice about that sensation?,’ ‘as you talk about that past experience, what are you noticing right now in your body?,’ or, ‘is that sensation/image something we can spend a little time with, or is it enough just to know it’s there?’ We may titrate small amounts of activation, pendulating gently between vortex (activation) and counter-vortex (resourcing), helping your nervous system build capacity and resiliency.
